Milan, 17 September (LaPresse) – ‘The recommendations of the College of Commissioners led by President von der Leyen are morally and politically biased, and it is to be hoped that they will not be adopted as they have been until now.’ This is what Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar wrote in a post on X after the European Commission today presented to the Council its proposal to suspend certain trade provisions of the Association Agreement between the EU and Israel, as well as its proposals for sanctions against Hamas, extremist ministers and violent settlers. ‘The moves against Israel will harm Europe's own interests,’ Sa'ar added, ‘Israel will continue to fight, with the help of its friends in Europe, against attempts to harm it while it is in the midst of an existential war.’ ‘The measures against Israel will receive an appropriate response, and we hope we will not be forced to adopt them,’ Sa'ar concluded.
