Rome, 28 September (LaPresse) – ‘The decision to reinstate expired resolutions is not only legally unfounded, but also politically and morally unjustifiable.’ Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote this, urging UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to prevent a relaunch of the mechanisms to implement the UN sanctions reimposed on Tehran, arguing that there is no legal basis for them. ‘We urge you to prevent any attempt to reinstate the sanctions mechanisms, including the Sanctions Committee and the Panel of Experts. No part of the UN's resources should be allocated or used to support such illegal actions,’ he added, concluding that ‘any attempt to harm Iran will be met with appropriate responses, and full responsibility will fall on those who have preferred pressure over cooperation.’
