Rome, 5 October (LaPresse) – US President Donald Trump has authorised the deployment of 300 Illinois National Guard troops to Chicago, marking the latest escalation in his use of federal intervention in cities. White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson confirmed that the president had authorised the use of Illinois National Guard members, citing what she called ‘ongoing violent riots and lawlessness’ that local leaders had failed to quell. ‘The Trump administration's Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call in your troops or we will,’ Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said in a statement. ‘It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to ask a governor to send military troops within our borders and against our will,’ he added.
