Frankfurt (Germany), 13 October (LaPresse) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has appealed to US President Donald Trump to ensure peace in Ukraine as well, following the tycoon's peace plan for Gaza. Merz told reporters in Sharm el-Sheikh, where he will join other international leaders and President Trump in signing the first phase of the Gaza peace agreement: "This is linked to the hope that the American president, together with us, will now exert the influence he has exerted on the parties involved in the region on the Russian government. Because we must not forget: just a few hours' flight away, Russia has been at war with Ukraine for three and a half years.‘ Merz said he wanted to ’take the opportunity this afternoon to talk again with the American President about what we can do together to end this war as well."
