Brussels, 22 October (LaPresse) – Slovakia has informed the other Member States that it is withdrawing its reservation on the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. This has been reported by EU diplomatic sources. Formal confirmation will follow the completion of the written procedure, which will confirm the written agreement of all 27 Member States by tomorrow morning. If no objections are received, the package will be adopted tomorrow by 8:00 a.m. This is a significant package that targets Russia's main sources of income through new energy, financial and trade measures, according to the Danish Presidency of the EU Council. To weaken Russia's ability to wage war: – We are targeting LNG imports, the shadow fleet, third-country ports, air traffic, crypto-finance and supply chains; – We are introducing a new mechanism limiting the movement of Russian diplomats within the EU; – We are establishing new criteria for inclusion on the list to address the abduction of Ukrainian children by the Russian armed forces. The fact that a package of this size has been negotiated and concluded in just one month demonstrates Europe's commitment to supporting Ukraine, in close coordination with partners and allies, says the Danish Presidency. This makes it clear to Russia that our pressure will only increase as long as it continues to prolong its illegal war. This new package should also be seen in the light of the adoption of the robust 18th sanctions package, which includes the revised oil price cap mechanism, on 18 July.
