Brussels, Oct. 23 (LaPresse) – On Ukraine, "we are watching what happens; first, we need to see what the Russians do. The rest is theory, a debate about something that does not yet exist, because it seems to me that the Russians do not want to end the war. I believe it is also right to urge China, as the United States say, because China has great influence on the Russian Federation and, if it wants, China can also play a significant role in reducing the tension. Meanwhile, we must continue with sanctions, both European and American, hoping that Putin will come to his senses." This was said by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani at the EPP pre-summit.
Regarding the use of Russian assets for reparations loans to Ukraine, "in principle, they are not opposed, but we need to see, to avoid mistakes, if there is a legal basis for doing so. A thorough analysis and verification of the conditions, especially legal ones, must be done because we must not make mistakes and then do a favor to the Russian Federation. So we need to study very carefully to evaluate the legal basis," Tajani added.
"If there is a positive response, it can be done; if not, we must be very cautious."
