Beijing, Nov. 3 (LaPresse) – China denies having tested nuclear weapons after U.S. President Donald Trump, defending his choice to resume nuclear weapons testing, stated in an interview with CBS that "Russia and China are also conducting tests, but they don’t talk about it." This was reported by the Global Times.

When asked to comment on Trump’s words, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning “stated that, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a responsible nuclear state, China is committed to peaceful development” and “emphasized that China adheres to a ‘no first use’ nuclear policy, maintains a self-defense nuclear strategy, and has strictly honored its commitment to suspend nuclear testing,” reports the Global Times.

The Chinese diplomacy spokeswoman also “stated that China is ready to cooperate with all parties to support the authority of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and to safeguard the international nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime” and “expressed the hope that the United States seriously respect its obligations under the CTBT and its commitment to a ‘nuclear test moratorium’ and take concrete actions to support the international framework for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, as well as to maintain strategic balance and global stability,” the Global Times further reports.
