Washington (USA), 5 November (LaPresse) – Socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani has been elected mayor of New York. Mamdani defeated former Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent, and Republican Curtis Sliwa. He will replace Mayor Eric Adams, who withdrew from re-election in September, overwhelmed by scandals and allegations of corruption. Mamdani, 34, a member of the state assembly, will become the city's youngest mayor in over a century.
