Lebanon, Israeli bombings on three cities in the south

Beirut (Lebanon), Nov. 6 (LaPresse/AP) – Israeli army (IDF) jets struck three cities in southern Lebanon after warning residents to evacuate. The airstrikes came just hours after Hezbollah urged the Lebanese government not to enter into negotiations with Israel. Israeli Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee had warned residents of Tayba, near the border, Tayr Debba, located just east of the coastal city of Tyre, and Aita al-Jabal to move 500 meters away from residential buildings that were later targeted. The Israeli military said it had struck Hezbollah military infrastructure in those areas and accused the group of rebuilding its capabilities nearly a year after the U.S.-brokered ceasefire that ended months of war. The attacks occurred as Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and his government met in Beirut to follow up on a plan drafted by the Lebanese army to disarm Hezbollah and other non-state armed groups in the country. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned Israel’s attacks and its occupation of five strategic points on Lebanese territory but said he was open to negotiations with Israel to end tensions.
