Washington (USA) 7 Nov. (LaPresse) – Republicans in the US Senate have rejected a bill that would have curtailed President Donald Trump's ability to launch an attack on Venezuela. Democrats are pressuring Congress to take a more active role in Trump's campaign against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Lawmakers, including leading Republicans, have asked the Trump administration to provide them with more information about US military attacks on alleged drug-trafficking vessels in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean. The bill would have essentially prevented an attack on Venezuelan soil by requiring prior authorisation from Congress. The vote shows the extent to which Republican senators are willing to allow the Trump administration to continue strengthening naval forces in the region.
