Washington (USA), 10 Nov. (LaPresse) – Republican Speaker Mike Johnson has asked members of the House to return “immediately” to Washington after the Senate broke the deadlock to end the shutdown. It is unclear when the Senate will hold the final vote on the bill to fund the federal government, but Johnson said that “the nightmare is finally coming to an end”. The upper house, thanks to a group of dissident Democratic senators who joined their Republican colleagues, approved the legislative process for a compromise measure which, if approved, will then have to be reviewed by the House.
