Milan, Nov. 16 (LaPresse) – The Israeli army (IDF) stated that it mistakenly identified United Nations forces in southern Lebanon due to weather conditions and had no intention of opening fire on them. The IDF specified that it had spotted two suspects just north of Metula and fired “warning shots” to disperse them. “After review, it was determined that the suspects were United Nations soldiers patrolling the area and were classified as suspects due to poor weather conditions,” the army explained, adding that the incident is under further investigation. The Times of Israel reports this. “The IDF emphasizes that no deliberate fire was directed at UNIFIL soldiers and that the matter is being handled through official military liaison channels,” the army added.
