Washington (United States), November 21. (LaPresse) – After spending the last few months trading accusations, President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani will meet this afternoon at the White House. The outcome of this meeting, scheduled for 3 p.m. (9 p.m. in Italy), could have significant consequences for the country's largest city. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said Thursday that the fact that a “communist” is being received at the White House "demonstrates that President Trump is willing to meet with anyone, talk to anyone, and try to do what's right for the American people, whether it's Democratic states, Republican states, or Democratic cities ." White House officials have not yet specified whether reporters will be allowed into the Oval Office before or after the meeting. The issue of Trump's previous threats to send the National Guard to New York and withhold billions of dollars in federal funding is expected to be addressed at the meeting. On Thursday, Mr. Mamdani sought to downplay the potential conflict with Mr. Trump and described the meeting as “business as usual” in institutional relations.
