Lagos (Nigeria) 25 Nov. (LaPresse/AP) – All 24 schoolgirls who were kidnapped last week by armed assailants from a school in Kebbi State, north-western Nigeria, have been rescued. The announcement was made by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. The girls were kidnapped on 17 November. ‘I am relieved that all 24 girls have been found. We must now urgently increase our presence on the ground in vulnerable areas to prevent further kidnappings,’ reads a statement attributed to Tinubu. The attack in Kebbi State was one of several mass kidnappings that have occurred recently in Nigeria. Last Friday, attackers stormed a Catholic school in Niger State, in the north-central part of the country, and kidnapped more than 300 students and staff members. Fifty students managed to escape over the weekend.
