Hong Kong, 27 November (LaPresse) – The fire that engulfed seven high-rise buildings in a residential complex in Hong Kong is the most serious in the city's history. So far, 55 people have been confirmed dead. The worst fire to date was in November 1996, when 41 people died in a blaze in a commercial building in Kowloon. That fire lasted 20 hours. Hong Kong authorities suspect that some of the materials used for the exterior walls of the seven high-rise buildings that caught fire yesterday in a massive blaze did not meet fire resistance standards, allowing the fire to spread unusually quickly, killing 55 people so far. The three people arrested in connection with the fire in seven high-rise buildings in a residential complex in Hong Kong are employees of a construction company. They are two directors and a technical consultant. The three are charged with manslaughter.
