Hong Kong, 30 November (LaPresse) – The death toll from a fire that broke out in a residential complex in Hong Kong has risen to 146, after more bodies were found inside the completely burned-out buildings. The fire, which broke out on Wednesday, was only brought under control on Friday. Authorities are investigating possible fire safety violations and have suspended work on 28 projects linked to the same contractor. Three men have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. Many residents have been moved to emergency shelters. The tragedy has also prompted Chinese authorities to order a nationwide inspection of all high-density buildings to identify any structural risks and deficiencies in fire safety measures.
