Rome, 30 November (LaPresse) – Pope Leo XIV, in his greeting during his prayer visit to the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral in Istanbul, emphasised ‘the courageous Christian witness of the Armenian people over the centuries, often in tragic circumstances’. Prevost, recalling the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea and the Creed, said: "It is from this common apostolic faith that we must draw to recover the unity that existed in the early centuries between the Church of Rome and the ancient Eastern Churches. We must also draw inspiration from the experience of the early Church to restore full communion, a communion that does not imply absorption or domination, but rather an exchange of the gifts that our Churches have received from the Holy Spirit for the glory of God the Father and the building up of the body of Christ. I hope that the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches will soon resume its fruitful work in search of a model of full communion “together, naturally”, as Pope John Paul II hoped in his Encyclical Ut unum sint.
