Milan, Dec. 6 (LaPresse) – A new humanitarian flight by Italian Cooperation carrying aid bound for Gaza departed this afternoon for Jordan. The Farnesina said in a statement: “Thanks to the initiative of the Italian government, 85 tons of food and essential goods – mainly pasta, canned legumes and flour – have been collected and made available by partners from the Italian agri-food supply chain: Coldiretti, Conad, Confagricoltura and Confcooperative.”
The special flight, part of the “Food for Gaza” initiative, was prepared and departed from the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) base in Brindisi, managed by the World Food Programme. Once in Jordan, the aid will be handed over to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), which will ensure its transport to the Gaza Strip and distribution to the civilian population. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani recalled that “thanks to Food for Gaza, about 2,400 tons of emergency assistance – including foodstuffs, essential goods and medical supplies – have so far been delivered to the people of Gaza.” This is, in particular, the third special Italian Cooperation flight bound for Jordan, and the fifth humanitarian transport carried out within the framework of the Italian “Food for Gaza” initiative.
