Brussels, 12 December (LaPresse) – Member States have given the green light to the use of Article 122 of the TFEU, which allows Russian assets to be frozen indefinitely without having to undergo the six-monthly renewal of sanctions against Russia, with the associated requirement for unanimity. In this case, countries such as Hungary no longer have the power of veto. This has been reported by EU sources. The use of Article 122 is considered justified by exceptional circumstances and serious economic risks caused by Russian aggression. The regulation, which was voted on at 5:30 p.m. by written procedure, was approved by 25 Member States, while two voted against it. The move paves the way for the use of Russian assets for the repair loan to Kiev.
