Milan, 14 December (LaPresse) – ‘We are not aware of any Italians’ involved in the attack on Bondi Beach in Sydney. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in a telephone interview with the special programme “Diario del Giorno” on Rete4. ‘We are in contact with our consulate in Sydney and there are no reports of Italians involved’. ‘What happened in Sydney is the result of an anti-Semitic campaign. These poor victims have nothing to do with what is happening in the West Bank or Gaza during these troubled days and complicated months,’ he added. ‘Unfortunately, we must ensure that there are no reactions. The risk is that this attack may also have been orchestrated to try, as on 7 October, to provoke a harsh reaction from Israel, just as we are moving from the first to the second phase of the ceasefire,’ Tajani stressed. ‘I hope that this is not some criminal idea to break this first phase and start the war again.’ ‘We must try to work with diplomacy and remain calm, because attacks like this certainly do not help the peace process,’ said the Foreign Minister. ‘It is a very fragile truce, and attacks like this are detrimental.’
