We know this from history, and we should learn from history.‘ This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas upon her arrival at the Foreign Affairs Council. ’We must keep in mind that countries want to join NATO because they do not want Russia to invade or attack them. That is why Sweden and Finland joined NATO. That is why the Baltic states joined NATO, to have this defence umbrella. Now, if that is not up for discussion, then we have to see what the tangible security guarantees are. They cannot be documents or promises. They have to be real troops, real capabilities for Ukraine to be able to defend itself," she added.
