Taiwan, China to US: ‘Stop selling arms to Taipei, respect agreements’

Washington (USA), 18 December. (LaPresse) – The Chinese Foreign Ministry has attacked the United States for announcing a massive arms sale package to Taiwan worth more than $10 billion. Beijing explained that this move violates diplomatic agreements between China and the United States, seriously damages China's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and undermines regional stability. “The Taiwan independence forces on the island are seeking independence by force and resisting reunification by force, squandering hard-earned money to buy weapons at the cost of turning Taiwan into a powder keg,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun. ‘This cannot save the doomed fate of Taiwan independence, but will only accelerate the push of the Taiwan Strait towards a dangerous situation of military confrontation and war. The United States' support for Taiwan independence through weapons will ultimately backfire on them. Using Taiwan to contain China will not succeed,’ he added.
