Ukraine, von der Leyen: ‘We hope that 2026 will finally bring a just and lasting peace’

Turin, 25 December (LaPresse) – ‘We hope that the coming year will finally bring a just and lasting peace and, ultimately, a secure and prosperous future for our Union.’ This was written in a message on social media by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. ‘In a turbulent world that is moving ever faster, Christmas offers us a rare opportunity to pause, breathe, slow down and remember what really matters,’ she explained. "This season should draw our attention to our families, in all their forms. To our friends, the families we choose. And to the loved ones who give meaning to our days. For some, this season can be difficult. To those who bear the burden of loneliness, grief, illness or loss, our hearts are with you.‘ ’I also express my deepest gratitude to all those who are spending this special day caring for others, in hospitals, shelters and homes. You embody the very values that Christmas represents: solidarity and compassion," she continues. ‘And we think in particular of our friends in Ukraine. We hope that the coming year will finally bring a just and lasting peace and, ultimately, a secure and prosperous future in our Union. Merry Christmas to all,’ he concludes.
