Brussels, 7 January (LaPresse) – An orange alert has been issued in Belgium due to heavy snowfall affecting the country. Forty flights have been cancelled in Brussels and 400 km of traffic jams have been reported in Flanders, according to Le Soir. The orange alert for snow remains in force throughout the country, with the exception of the coast, which remains under a yellow alert. Between 3 and 6 cm of fresh snow is expected today in most regions, and even more in some places, according to forecasts by the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM). There will also be a widespread risk of ice. ‘Due to the snow and expected delays, 40 flights have been cancelled,’ said Brussels Airport spokesman Jeffrey Franssens. ‘Our teams are ready to intervene to remove ice from aircraft and runways,’ he added.
