Milan, 10 Jan. (LaPresse) – The deputy mayor of Crans-Montana, Nicole Bonvin Clivaz, in an interview with Swiss broadcaster RTS after the ceremony paying tribute to the victims of the New Year's Eve fire, apologised on behalf of the municipality to the victims' families, acknowledging errors and shortcomings, in particular the lack of inspections since 2019 at the “Le Constellation” bar where the fire broke out. ‘We apologise to all the families who are mourning and grieving,’ she said, ‘we want to support them in the best way possible’ and ‘we will do everything we can to ensure that this does not happen again’. The apology comes after controversy arose following the fact that no apology was made a few days ago during the Crans-Montana Municipal Council press conference. ‘Today, it is necessary to formulate them. Under the heat of the moment, we were clumsy,’ said Nicole Bonvin Clivaz, ‘it is not common to experience such a situation. It took a lot of courage to face it, and we will still need it.’ She said that the municipality apologises ‘for everything,’ ‘for that tragic night, for not doing everything right, for seeing that it happened in our home.’ She acknowledged the council's responsibility for the lack of checks on the premises since 2019: ‘We are responsible for this failure. The investigation will tell us why these failures occurred. Today, we do not have the real answers,’ said the deputy mayor.
