Milan, 10 January (LaPresse) – At least 217 deaths have been recorded in just six hospitals in Tehran among protesters, most of them young people and ‘from live ammunition’. This was reported by a Tehran doctor to Time magazine, speaking on condition of anonymity. The doctor's figures refer to Thursday evening and, according to the source, the authorities removed the bodies from the hospitals on Friday. Among these victims, according to the doctor quoted by Time, were several people killed outside a police station north of Tehran when security forces fired machine guns at protesters, who died “instantly”, a circumstance in which, according to some activists, at least 30 people died. Yesterday, human rights groups reported a much lower number of victims than that reported by the doctor, but Time writes that the discrepancy could be explained by different reporting standards. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (Hrana) reported more than 60 deaths since the protests began.
