Milan, 11 January (LaPresse) – The United Kingdom is discussing with European allies the possibility of sending soldiers to Greenland to allay Donald Trump's security fears and counter the growing military threat from China and Russia. The Telegraph reports this, citing British government sources who say that Prime Minister Keir Starmer has taken the threat from Russia and China in the area ‘extremely seriously’ and agreed that action is needed. According to the newspaper, military leaders are drawing up plans for a possible NATO mission on the island, which Trump has threatened to take control of for security reasons. Also according to The Telegraph, British officials have met with their counterparts from countries such as Germany and France in recent days to begin preparations, but the newspaper notes that the plans are still in the early stages. The Europeans hope that strengthening their presence in the Arctic will convince Trump to abandon his ambition to annex Greenland.
