Milan, Jan 16 (LaPresse) – The Pentagon is preparing to send additional US forces to the Middle East. A US official told NBC News on Wednesday that this involves a carrier strike group, additional aircraft, and land-based air defense systems. According to the source cited by NBC News, the additional forces aim to strengthen military resources in the region as tensions remain high and Trump is considering military action in Iran. The forces are also intended to ensure that the military is ready in case Iran attacks American assets or US allies in the region, the official said, adding that equipment and thousands of additional troops will arrive in the coming days and weeks. Yesterday, Thursday, the Pentagon announced the movement of a naval strike group from the South China Sea toward the Middle East; in particular, according to The Hill, the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and its strike group were spotted heading west, leaving the Indo-Pacific region. The movement of the strike group, which includes combat aircraft, missile-launching destroyers, and at least one attack submarine, is expected to take about a week.
