Rome, 23 January (LaPresse) – TikTok has finalised an agreement to create a new American version of the app, averting the looming threat of a ban in the United States, which has been under discussion for years. The social video platform has signed agreements with major investors, including Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX, to form the joint venture. The new app will operate under ‘defined safeguards,’ with a focus on data protection and software safeguards for US users, the company said in a statement released on Thursday. The creation of a US unit marks the end of years of uncertainty over the fate of the popular video-sharing platform in the United States. US President Donald Trump thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for ‘working with us and ultimately approving the deal.’ ‘He could have done otherwise, but he didn't, and his decision is appreciated,’ the White House chief said in his post on Truth Social. The Washington leader also said he was ‘very happy to have helped save TikTok’ and expressed appreciation for those in his administration who brought the deal to a ‘truly dramatic, definitive and splendid conclusion.’
