Greenland, Denmark: “Now with the US, a more positive and constructive climate”

Brussels, Jan 29 (LaPresse) – “I would like to confirm what was said yesterday by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, namely that we had the first meeting at the level of senior officials in Washington on the Greenland issue. Everything went well, in a very constructive atmosphere and tone, and further meetings are planned. It’s not that the issues are resolved, but it is positive, because now we have returned to what was agreed in Washington exactly two weeks and one day ago. After that, there was a significant deviation. The situation was worsening, but now we are back on the right track,” said Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen upon his arrival at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.

“As I have stated on many occasions, we obviously share the United States’ security concerns regarding the Atlantic. It is an issue we want to resolve in close cooperation, but also through a trilateral dialogue between Denmark, Greenland, and the US. It’s not that we can conclude anything yet, but today I am slightly more optimistic than a week ago,” he added.
