Gaza, Israel to reopen Rafah crossing on Sunday

Rome, 30 January (LaPresse) – Israel will reopen the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt to pedestrian traffic in both directions on Sunday. This was stated by the coordinator of government activities in the Territories of the Israeli Ministry of Defence. ‘Exit and entry into the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing will be permitted in coordination with Egypt, subject to security clearance of individuals by Israel and under the supervision of the European Union mission, similar to the mechanism implemented in January 2025,’ explained COGAT. ‘The return of residents from Egypt to the Gaza Strip will be permitted, in coordination with Egypt, only for residents who left Gaza during the course of the war and only after obtaining security clearance from Israel,’ he added, specifying that ‘in addition to the initial identification and screening at the Rafah crossing by the European Union mission, a further screening and identification process will be conducted at a designated corridor, managed by the defence establishment in an area under IDF control’.
