Brussels, Feb. 3 (LaPresse) – "It is undoubtedly a difficult moment in this war, in which the Russians have once again ignored the efforts of the American side. The President of the United States asked to refrain from attacks against energy and critical infrastructure for the entire duration of the meetings of our negotiating teams. The President of the United States had asked for a suspension of attacks for one week and it had been an important decision in practice. Everything began on Friday evening and last night the Russians, in our view, broke the promise that was made." This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. "So either Russia now believes that a week consists of fewer than four days instead of seven, or it is truly betting everything on war and simply waited for the coldest days of this winter to arrive, when temperatures in much of Ukraine are below -20 degrees Celsius," he adds. Zelensky then stresses that "Russia always clearly demonstrates its intentions. We believe that this Russian attack actually violates what was agreed with the American side and that this must have consequences." The Ukrainian president then reiterates that these are "the most difficult days of this winter, the coldest days" and that "attacks on infrastructure and energy first and foremost are aimed at depriving people of energy supplies for heating, aimed at creating blackouts. They show Russia’s true attitude toward everything that is happening. We will raise this with the U.S. and I expect our partners not to remain silent about what is happening."
