France: water leak in the Louvre Museum causes damage to 15th and 16th century works

Milan, 13 February (LaPresse) – During the night, a ‘serious water leak’ occurred at the Louvre Museum in Paris, affecting room 707, known as the “Duchâtel” room, on the first floor of the Denon wing. This room houses numerous works from the 15th and 16th centuries, including paintings by Bernardino Luini and Fra Angelico. According to French broadcaster Bfmtv, scaffolding has been erected as an emergency measure. The leak is believed to have originated on the upper floor and may have been caused by a faulty pipe. The museum's website informs visitors that “rooms 706 to 708 (Salon Carré) are currently closed”. The ceiling is severely damaged and a source has reported that the artworks are apparently damaged. An assessment has already been initiated.
