Brussels, 13 February (LaPresse) – ‘We take note of the requests for resignation made by some Member States to Ms Albanese, but the decision on her future must be taken by the UN.’ This was stated by the European Commission's spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, Anouar El Anouni, in the daily press briefing, responding to a question about France's accusations against the UN Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian Territories. ‘The EU has taken a consistent and well-established position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, emphasising our firm commitment to international law for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, in which two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, live side by side in peace within secure and recognised borders,’ he added. I would also like to add that the EU is a strong supporter of the United Nations human rights system and that we will continue to support efforts for independent investigations into human rights violations and abuses and violations of international humanitarian law, including those that may constitute international crimes."
