Milan, 16 February (LaPresse) – Police in the canton of Valais, Switzerland, have reported that five people were injured when a BLS AG regional train travelling from Goppenstein to Hohtenn derailed at around 7 a.m. this morning. Initial findings suggest that an avalanche may have blocked the tracks shortly before the train passed. According to a police statement, there were 29 people on board at the time of the accident. Five people were injured, one of whom had to be taken to hospital in Sion. The other four were treated at the scene by the emergency services and did not require hospitalisation. All other passengers were evacuated. A replacement bus service was set up between Goppenstein and Gampel to ensure that the journey could continue. The public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident.
