Rome, Feb. 17 (LaPresse) – "The Government deemed it appropriate to accept the invitation from the U.S. Administration to attend, as an observer country, the first meeting of the Board of Peace scheduled for Thursday in Washington. This is certainly a balanced solution that respects our constitutional constraints," said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during government communications on the latest developments regarding the Peace Plan for the Gaza Strip. "The European Union has already confirmed the participation of the rotating Presidency of the Council and the Commission," he added, "and all the main regional partners will also participate. I am thinking of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar. Also Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world. How could Italy not be present where peace in the Middle East is discussed and built, in the presence of all the main regional actors?" Tajani emphasized.
The Gaza conflict "is a crisis that affects regional balances; the stability of the wider Mediterranean; and the security of trade routes for our exports, which transit 40% through the Red Sea. A route that is also fundamental for the IMEC economic-logistics corridor, which passes right through there," concluded the Foreign Minister.
