Frankfurt (Germany), 18 February (LaPresse) – ‘If we don't resolve the issue of requirements, we cannot move forward with the project,’ said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in an interview with the podcast “Machtwechsel” ahead of the CDU congress in Stuttgart, referring to the joint project with France for a new generation fighter jet. ‘The French want a new-generation aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons and operating from aircraft carriers, features that we do not require,’ explained the Chancellor, stressing that this is not a political clash but a matter of different military needs and that Berlin is also discussing whether piloted fighter jets will still be needed in twenty years' time.
