Manila (Philippines), 18 February (LaPresse/AP) – Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte announced her candidacy for the 2028 presidential election during a televised speech in which she renewed accusations of corruption and misgovernment against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ‘Politicians often avoid announcing their plans in advance so as not to become targets of attacks,’ Duterte said, ‘but this administration has long since destroyed my name.’ She and her family have accused Marcos of detaining her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who faces trial for crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court. Duterte also accused Marcos of reneging on his election promises and misgovernment. She repeatedly called for public forgiveness for issues such as government corruption, public order issues and inflation.
