Nigeria: 38 victims after armed group raid in the north-west of the country

Rome, 23 February (LaPresse/AP) – An attack by an armed group in Zamfara State, in north-western Nigeria, has left 38 people dead and numerous residents, including women and children, kidnapped. According to the police, the authorities had received advance information, but the lack of passable roads prevented a timely intervention. The assault took place in the community of Tungan Duste, in the local government area of Anka, and is the latest in a series of attacks that regularly hit the north of the country. In the neighbouring state of Kebbi, 33 people were killed in simultaneous attacks last week. The African Union has condemned the attack and called for the immediate release of the hostages.
