Ukraine, EU: ‘Russia has not achieved its objectives, we are increasing pressure’

Milan, 24 February (LaPresse) – "Four years ago today, Russia launched its large-scale and illegal war of aggression against Ukraine. Once again, we pay tribute to the courageous Ukrainian people, who continue to resist and defend their country. Russia has not achieved its military objectives in Ukraine. Unable to advance on the battlefield, it is deliberately targeting Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure, including energy facilities, hospitals, schools and residential buildings in the midst of a harsh winter. Ukrainians continue to show great fortitude, determination and resilience." This is stated in a joint statement by European Council President Antonio Costa, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola on the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. “Putin's war of attrition is gradually weakening Russia, and we are determined to exert further pressure on Russia to end its aggression and engage in meaningful peace negotiations. We are determined to increase pressure on the Russian energy and financial sectors and to take further measures against the shadow fleet,” the statement reads.
