Brussels, 25 Feb. (LaPresse) – “My mission was to propose a law, it was the DSA, the DMA, the DGA, but also the DATA Act, and, of course, the AI Act, and you created the law. And I would like to congratulate you and thank you for everything you have done. I was very impressed by your dedication in repeating what you did, not against anyone, not against any country, but for us, for our fellow citizens in Europe, for our children, for our democracy, to protect our democracy and not to impose anything outside Europe.” This was said by former EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton, during a hearing before the European Parliament’s Internal Market Committee regarding the United States’ decision to impose sanctions on his visa. “I know the United States very well, I love this country and spend much of my time there. I met my wife in the United States, I work in the United States, I teach in the United States. And, of course, like all of you, I still love this country, but if, obviously, we must face the current situation we are discussing this afternoon, I should tell you that I did not take it personally, because the work we did together was, in fact, your work,” he emphasized. “And I know it is with this spirit that almost 90% of the Parliament voted in favor of this law, which includes the DSA, and 100% of the Member States voted in favor, after hard work,” recalled the former French commissioner.
