Rome, 26 February (LaPresse) – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has written an open letter to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stating that Kiev ‘has been unable to accept the position of the sovereign Hungarian government and the Hungarian people regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine for four years’. ‘For four years, you have worked to force Hungary into the war between your country and Russia. During this period, you have received support from Brussels and secured the backing of the Hungarian opposition. We also see that you, Brussels and the Hungarian opposition are coordinating efforts to bring a pro-Ukrainian government to power in Hungary,’ he wrote. ‘In recent days,’ he continued, "you have blocked the Druzhba pipeline, which is essential for Hungary's energy supply. Your actions are contrary to Hungary's interests and jeopardise the security and accessibility of energy supplies to Hungarian households. I therefore urge you to change your anti-Hungarian policy.‘ ’We, the Hungarian people,‘ Orban concluded, ’stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, but we do not wish to participate in the war. We do not want to finance the war effort, and we do not want to pay more for energy. I urge you to reopen the pipeline immediately and refrain from further attacks on Hungary's energy security."
