Milan, 4 March (LaPresse/AP) – Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjartó in Moscow to discuss oil and gas supplies, a priority issue given that Hungary continues to depend on Russian fossil fuels despite the war in Ukraine. Szijjártó said he was in Moscow to obtain assurances from the Russian authorities that Hungary would continue to have access to Russian oil and gas, despite disruptions caused by the war in the Middle East and the interruption of Russian oil flows through the Druzhba pipeline. Putin assured Szijjártó during the meeting that the Russian authorities ‘have always fulfilled all our obligations and, of course, we intend to do so and are ready to do so’. ‘I understand that this is a cause for concern for you, particularly with regard to oil supplies. We are monitoring developments in the global and European gas markets. We will be happy to discuss all these issues,’ Putin added, noting: ‘Not everything is within our power.’
