Iran: Lebanese Prime Minister calls for an end to Israeli air strikes: ‘We are disarming Hezbollah’

Milan, 13 March (LaPresse/AP) – Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, has called for an end to Israeli attacks and pledged to disarm Hezbollah. Salam spoke after meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “Lebanon did not choose this war,” Salam said, criticising Hezbollah’s rocket attacks on Israel. ‘There is no justification for holding an entire nation hostage,’ he added, stating that more than 500 Hezbollah military posts and weapons depots in southern Lebanon had been dismantled and rejecting Israeli accusations that Beirut had failed to take action against the group. ‘These actions are not symbolic gestures,’ Salam said.
