Milan, Mar. 15 (LaPresse) – According to reports by the Times of Israel and Haaretz, the Israeli government approved, in a late-night phone vote, the transfer of 2.6 billion shekels (720 million euros) to the Defense Ministry for an urgent purchase of weapons. The package will be used for “security-related purchases” and to address “urgent needs.” A document from Israel’s Finance Ministry, distributed to all ministers and cited by several media outlets, stated that, “given the intensity of the fighting,” the additional budget allocation was necessary. “An urgent and immediate need has emerged to provide an operational response, including the acquisition of munitions, the procurement of advanced weapons systems and the replenishment of essential combat stockpiles,” the document said, adding that the decision constituted “an exceptional emergency measure intended solely to address the needs arising from the conduct of the fighting.”
