Cuba, Energy Ministry: “Blackout across the entire island”

Havana (Cuba), Mar 16 (LaPresse) – A new blackout is underway across the entire island of Cuba. Cuban authorities reported the news. In the country, which has 11 million inhabitants, the energy and economic crises are worsening. The Ministry of Energy and Mines reported a “complete interruption” of the national electrical system and said it has launched an investigation. On Friday, President Miguel Díaz-Canel warned that the island has not received oil supplies for more than three months and is continuing thanks to solar energy, natural gas, and thermoelectric power plants. A massive power outage that occurred more than a week ago affected the western part of the island, leaving millions of people without electricity. Cuba has attributed its difficulties to the energy blockade imposed by the United States. In January, President Donald Trump threatened to impose customs duties on any country that had sold or supplied oil to the island.
