Rome, 20 March (LaPresse) – The Trump administration is reportedly considering the possibility of occupying or blockading the Iranian island of Kharg to put pressure on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Axios reports this, citing four sources familiar with the matter. However, it is explained that such an operation could expose US troops more directly to enemy fire. Therefore, it would only be launched after the US military has further weakened Iran’s military capabilities around the Strait of Hormuz. According to the sources, the operation would take ‘a month’ to put into practice, whilst three different Marine units are currently en route to the region.
