Jerusalem (Israel), 28 March (LaPresse) – Israel claims to have intercepted the first missile fired from Yemen, as the war in the Middle East intensifies. Attacks appear to have intensified in the Middle East conflict following the US-Iran standoff, including strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities and an Iranian missile attack that injured US military personnel and damaged aircraft at a base in Saudi Arabia. Yesterday, the Iranian ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva stated that Tehran had agreed to ‘facilitate and expedite’ humanitarian aid through the Strait of Hormuz. The aid plan would mark the first breakthrough in this crucial waterway after a month of war. In the United States, President Donald Trump reiterated his desire for Saudi Arabia and Israel to normalise relations once the conflict ends, although significant obstacles remain. Yesterday, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the Houthis’ military spokesman, released a pre-recorded statement outlining various ways in which the rebels could join the war in support of Iran. “We affirm that we are ready to intervene militarily in any of the following cases,” Saree stated. Among these cases is “the continuation of escalation against the Islamic Republic and the Axis of Jihad and Resistance, as dictated by the theatre of military operations”.
