Rome, Mar. 29 (LaPresse) – "I want to express my deepest solidarity with the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, head of the Catholic Church in the Holy Land, and with the Custodian of the Holy Land, Father Francesco Ielpo, official Custodian of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. It is unacceptable that they were prevented from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem."
This was written on X by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, emphasizing that "for the first time, the police denied the Church leadership the possibility to celebrate the Palm Sunday Mass in one of the holiest sites for millions of faithful around the world."
"I have given immediate instructions to our Ambassador in Israel to express our outrage to the authorities in Tel Aviv and to confirm Italy's position in always and in every circumstance safeguarding freedom of religion," Tajani added.
