London (United Kingdom), 11 April (LaPresse/AP) – London police arrested more than 200 people on Saturday during a protest in support of the group Palestine Action, which the government has designated as a terrorist organisation. The Metropolitan Police said it had detained 212 protesters aged between 27 and 82. The British High Court ruled in February that the government’s decision to ban the protest group as a terrorist organisation was unlawful, but upheld the ban whilst the government appealed. The police had warned in advance that the demonstration, organised by the group Defend Our Juries, would lead to arrests. Hundreds of people gathered in Trafalgar Square to show their support for the group, with some holding placards reading: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action”. Musician Robert Del Naja of the trip-hop group Massive Attack said he had held up a placard in support of the group, despite the potential risk of jeopardising his ability to travel. Protesters shouted “shame” at the police as they led the arrested away and jeered at them for arresting elderly people. “Eh, she looks just like a terrorist, doesn’t she, mate?” shouted a woman as police led a protester with a walking stick towards a van.
